Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head rental home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing the best vacation home:
- To start, have your family select date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Updated Offshore Breeze retreat with outdoor pool and lagoon view has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
