Strategies for getting the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose your vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Dreamy island oasis with private pool, grill & fast WiFi - beach access nearby has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.

  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
