Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- First and foremost, have your group choose the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. 6 Terra Bella, Oceanfront, Elevator, Private Pool, Roof Top Patio, Free Golf has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
