Strategies to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental in the Hilton Head area:
- To start, have your group select vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 10 Iron Clad- Luxury Ocean Front Home, 6 Br, 6.5 Ba- Private Beach Access has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
