Strategies to get the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Book your rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning and picking the perfect Hilton Head rental:
- Select dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly ocean view oasis with pool, epic views, & 3-tier outdoor living has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
