Tips and Tricks to get the perfect rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Selecting and booking your prefectrental:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Walk to Fish Haul Beach - brand-new home with multiple decks, AC & fast WiFi has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
