Tips to get the very best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectrental home:

  • First, have your group commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Expansive Private Oceanfront Home with Vaulted Ceilings and Private Pool! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
