Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Start by having your group select dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Beachside condo with pools, tennis & hot tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
