Vacation rental tips and tricks:

Get the most from your budget:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

How to choose the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 4 BR Home, Private Pool, and Spa on Tranquil Lagoon has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the host before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Additional considerations:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
