Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group agree to date ranges and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Spacious home with private pool & central AC - walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or could be applied to your contract.

Tips for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
