Tips to get the very best rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To book the most suitable vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Hilton Head restaurants and activities.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Snowbird\/dog-friendly villa with WiFi, 2 patios, & grill + pool\/ beach access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your group.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you long to visit, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- During arrival, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
