Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting and booking the perfect Hilton Head rental home:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Wonderfully Updated Three Bedroom Villa in Hickory Cove! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
