Booking the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
How to pick the perfect vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- To start, have your group select date ranges and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 3rd-floor villa with pools, tennis & pickleball - walk to beach & Coligny Plaza has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If not, call the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Have a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
