Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:
- To start, have your group decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Ideally located island gem with an outdoor pool, full kitchen, & balcony has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your . We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
