Rental property booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental:

  • Begin by choosing your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Waterfront Condo with Shared Pools, Hot Tubs, Private Balconies, and Ocean Views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
