Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, change your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.

Choosing the best rental home in Hilton Head:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Dog-Friendly Condo w\/ Lagoon & Golf View, WiFi & Shared Pool - Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
