Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Planning and picking the best Hilton Head vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 300 steps to the beach! - Pet Friendly Ranch Style House North Forest Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you long to visit, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
