Rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, shift your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have deals for local shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- To start, have your group decide on date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Luxurious home with private pool, central AC, & high-speed WiFi - walk to beach has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
