Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Advice for a great stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Record any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
