Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Third floor Penthouse with wonderful ocean views! - *Pool heated seasonally* has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
