Tips to get the best rental home experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick your Hilton Head vacation home:
- Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Third floor Penthouse with wonderful ocean views! - *Pool heated seasonally* has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
