Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Reserve your Hilton Head rental property in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Large Six Bedroom Custom-Built Home with Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
