Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, picking, and booking your Hilton Head vacation home:
- Start by selecting vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Large Six Bedroom Custom-Built Home with Private Pool! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible online. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or could be applied to your invoice.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
