Vacation rental booking tips:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront, Sea Pines, Pool & Private Beach Access has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, note any problem areas during check in. text the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
