Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Fantastic Vacation Condo Close to Beach w\/Free WiFi, AC, W\/D, Shared Pool\/Tennis has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If not, reach out to the host before you book the property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
