How to find the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the largest vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Inviting family-friendly condo with balcony, central AC, & outdoor pool has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If they are not listed, call the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation group.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
