Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- To get the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your Hilton Head rental home:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Nicely Appointed Villa Close to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
