How to book the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Sticking to a budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and choose the perfectrental home:
- To start, have your family choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Nicely Appointed Villa Close to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
