Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:
Find your perfect rental:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Dog-Friendly Condo w\/ Fast WiFi, a Patio, & Shared Pool - Walk to the Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available online. Otherwise, email the host before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or costs applied to your contract.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
