Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Getting the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Choose your dates and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Oceanfront Villa with Ocean Views, Shared Pool\/Hot Tub, and Nearby Beach Access has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
