Tricks and tips for getting the best rental home experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the perfect vacation rental:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Nicely Appointed Home with Lagoon Views! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your agreement.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
