Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental:
- First and foremost, have your group decide on vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Water-view townhome with pool & tennis access & on-site golf has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Make a record of any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
