Tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Renovated spring 2019, villa with shared outdoor pool - just 400' from ocean has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
