Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Renovated island townhome near the beach with golf course views has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If not, email the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .

More considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the property manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
