Hilton Head rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your best deal:
- Booking your vacation rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Planning and choosing your prefect Hilton Head rental home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Enjoy breathtaking views from each room! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
