Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, picking, and booking the perfect Hilton Head rental:
- Select a group leader, choose your dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Bright, newly-remodeled, dog-friendly beach house w\/ a private pool & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation group.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
