Tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. To find the best rental home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to choose the best rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Large Private Home with Private Pool and Spa! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
