Vacation rental booking tips:
Finding your best deal:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Selecting and booking your Hilton Head rental:
- To start, have your family choose vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Close to beach, pickleball, tennis & golf with private pool, & hot tub has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
During your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many problems.
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
