Getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. Book your Hilton Head rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Start by having your family decide on trip dates and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. 4 bed\/3 bath home in Shipyard with peaceful lagoon view and private pool has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the host before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the host immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
