Our top Vacation rental tips:

When to visit & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • First and foremost, have your group choose dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. 3rd-floor condo with private balcony, AC, W\/D, on-site pools, hot tub & tennis has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you simply love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
