Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a rental home:
- To get the best value, consider changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Selecting the best vacation home in Hilton Head:
- Select vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Top-floor condo with ocean views, on-site pools, beach access, & sports courts has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
