Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the largest rental for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Short walk to golf courses, pool and beach! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your agreement.
Additional considerations:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
