Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a rental home:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Book your Hilton Head vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Spacious villa with pool, hot tub, playground & cute decor - steps from beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
