Tricks and tips to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose the perfect rental home in Hilton Head:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Stunning Oceanfront Hideaway with Private Pool, Deck, and Yard - Dogs Welcome has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you are enamored with, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to inspire new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
