How to get the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To get the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- To start, have your family select trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Spring Escape: Value for Golf\/Tennis\/Pickleball, Family Getaways in best Locale! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
