Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- First, have your group commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Water view condo with scenic balcony, well-stocked kitchen, pool, & hot tub has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. If not, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Considerations for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- During check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
