Tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Recently Updated Resort Villa with WiFi & Pool - Quick Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
