Strategies to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the most suitable rental within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides have discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and picking the perfectvacation home:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Villa with WiFi, Private Washer & Dryer, Central AC - Shared Pools, Hot Tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you book the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
