Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning, selecting, and booking the right Hilton Head rental home:
- Start by having your family agree to date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Villa with WiFi, Private Washer & Dryer, Central AC - Shared Pools, Hot Tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
