Hilton Head rental property booking tips:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Lagoon-view condo with WiFi, central AC, washer\/dryer, access to pool, hot tub has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your trip.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
