Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to book:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Hilton Head. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best rental home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Family-Friendly Villa with Shared Pools and Hot Tub - Nearby Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
