Tips to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation property experience:
Getting the best value:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, try changing your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.
Choosing the perfect rental home:
- To start, have your family choose dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 5th floor condo with spectacular Ocean views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, email the host before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
