Strategies to get the optimal rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • To find the best value, change your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

How to choose the best rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.

  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
