Getting the best rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the largest rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Lagoon waterfront villa with pools, hot tub, & gym - walk to beach has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you simply love, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
