Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- To get the best value, try shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some property managers offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Lagoon waterfront villa with pools, hot tub, & gym - walk to beach has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
